Here at Povinelli Cutlery, we pride ourselves on offering quality products and outstanding customer service. Since 1890, we have been sharpening cutlery for restaurants, meat markets, hospitals, and households.

The original family business was started in the 1890s in Buffalo, NY by John Povinelli and his brother Dominic who came from Carisoloin Trento, Austria. They initially sharpened knives with a push cart-mounted grindstone, and in the early 1900s they started using a horse and wagon.

In the 1920s, John Povinelli’s six sons joined their father and expanded the business. They were able to cover the city of Buffalo and the neighboring suburbs by doing the sharpening in trucks.

During the 1950s and 60s, John’s grandsons (the third generation) also became involved in the family business. The original business in Buffalo, New York is currently being operated by John’s great- grandchild Paul. More of his great-grandchildren are operating additional family businesses in Carolina (carolinacutlery.com), Arizona (arizonacutlery.com) and Dallas, Texas.
